VBE_Extras: Command Search and Find Setting

I had some feedback that, when using VBE_Extras, locating the relevant menu items for commands and/or locating the desired setting in the Settings dialog can be tricky. Also, on one occasion, a user provided feedback that a particular command didn't work for them ... when I asked further, it became clear that the menu item for the command was, they said, missing. I advised them that they weren't looking in the right place in the right menu ... 'bug' fixed!

VBE_Extras how has 123 individual menu items across 6 VBE menus, encompassing 71 discrete commands.

And it has 98 individual settings across 13 tabs in the Settings dialog.

No wonder that 'discoverability' can be a problem ... especially for new users.

So, I added:

Command Search

Right near the top of the 'Extras' menu item in the VBE's main menu ... or use click Ctrl+Q. This opens the following dialog ...

The Command Search dialog

... which allows you to search/filter for any VBE_Extras command by name or just scroll through the entire list. Once you've selected a command, you can execute that command by a click on the 'Execute' button.

As you can see, the dialog also displays any keyboard shortcut assigned to the command (all keyboard shortcuts are fully customisable in the VBE_Extras Settings) and shows which menu the command is in. The command is prefixed with any 'menu path' so, in the above example, to locate the 'Add / update line numbers in Module' menu item (second item in the dialog) you would use the main VBE menu and select 'Extras' then 'Lines' then 'Add / update line numbers' then 'Add / update line numbers in Module'.

... but you don't have to find the menu item ... you can just click 'Execute'!

Find Setting

Is a button at the lower left of the Settings dialog (see second of the two images below) or you can activate this, once the Settings dialog is shown, using Alt+F. This opens the following dialog ...

The Find Setting dialog

... which allows you to search/filter for any setting by name or just scroll through the entire list. Once you have chosen a setting, you can jump to that setting by a click on the 'Select' button - the setting will be (briefly) highlighted, like this ...

Found a setting

Hopefully, Command Search and Find Settings will much improve 'discoverability' in VBE_Extras.
